Grindelia (Grindelia camporum)

Grindelia contains beside volatile oils, saponins, flavonoids and labdane diterpene resin which - based on long-term experiences - makes it a very useful plant in supporting cough and bronchial catarrh.

Description

Grindelia belongs to the family of daiy flowers and is native to dry areas in North America, Mexico and Canada. What is characteristic of all species is that the surface of the stem, leaves and flower area is covered with a sticky resin. At the ends of the shoots there are yellow flower heads, 2 to 5 cm in diameter.

Properties

The blossoms, leaves and stems of Grindelia contain volatile oils (borneol, alphaand beta-pinene), diterpenes (grindelic acid), saponins, flavonoids (kaempferol, luteolin and quercetin), and labdane diterpene resin. 

Possible uses

Based on long-time experiences, Grindelia has proven itself in supporting cough and bronchial catarrh.

Important to know

Due to lack of knowledge it is not recommended to provide Grindelia to pregnant or lactating mares as well as to foals.
